FAQs
What ages do you teach?
I work mostly with teens & college-aged adults. I don’t usually accept students younger than 13. I also work with adults as my schedule permits.
Where do you hold lessons?
In-person lessons are held in my home in Shawnee, Oklahoma, not far from Oklahoma Baptist University. It’s a restored 1920s classic, and my studio is in the living room at the front of the house with large front windows. Parents can park right in front of the house to wait, or, in fine weather, they are welcome to relax on my front porch.
How much do lessons cost?
I detail that information right here. Students are required to sign up for the semester (or whatever remains of it), but are welcome to take a “trial” lesson before committing to the semester.
I do charge a bit more than the local music stores, but my rates are commensurate with my training and experience.
Do you offer performance opportunities?
Yes! I hold a recital at the end of each semester; students are accompanied by a professional pianist. I’m also the Artistic Director for the Shawnee Peace & Praise Community Choir Association; occasionally some of my students will be selected to perform at one of SPP’s concerts. And, my studio gets asked to provide performers for area events. Some of my students also compete in competitions.
Students are gently encouraged, but not required, to perform.
Can I start anytime?
Yes! However, I set my schedule at the beginning of the semester, so it’s always best to start then, if possible.
Can I take biweekly lessons (every-other-week)?
No.
What time of day do you teach?
In-person lessons are generally scheduled during the afternoons and evenings. Online lessons are usually scheduled in the late mornings or early afternoons.
