MASTERCLASS Singer’s Workshop!

This is a free event, open to all area singers, whether they are my students or not. Space is limited! I have room for 9 singers to perform, but there is plenty of room for audience members.

WHAT IS A MASTERCLASS?
A traditional masterclass is given by a professional singer/teacher. Singers who wish to improve their singing perform, and the teacher offers a critique of their performance in front of an audience that includes the other singers who will sing for the teacher.

In my version, I invite a limited number of singers to perform a selection of their choice. I make observations and suggestions, usually pertaining to singing technique, rather than offering performance advice. Anyone from the community may attend, but they are not invited to offer a critique. My critique is supportive—I never criticize, and I work very hard to make sure each singer feels as comfortable as possible. It is a safe space, perfect to try out a performance and get tips that will help singers gain insights that can help them become better singers.

I usually charge a fee for masterclasses, but I am offering this one absolutely free to kick off the start of my semester!

It doesn’t matter what style you sing—classical, pop, country, jazz, gospel, etc.—we’ll address techniques that absolutely everyone can benefit from.

TO PERFORM
Please fill out the form below to sing in the masterclass. Remember, I have a limited number of slots, so if something comes up and you cannot perform once you’ve been accepted, please let me know as soon as possible since there are likely other people who wanted to sing but were turned away due to time constraints. PLEASE do not no-show! It will severely impact the masterclass since its success is dependent on each performer.

You may sing anything you wish, but please keep it to 4 minutes or less, and you will need to bring your own accompaniment. You may bring a back-up track, or you may accompany yourself, or you may sing a cappella. If you choose a back-up track, I will bring a speaker with bluetooth capabilities, but I advise you to also bring your own just in case there is an issue synching.

You do not need to wear formal clothing, but I recommend something that would fit at least “business casual.” Shorts, short skirts, workout clothes, and the like often take away from the performance. Put your best foot forward so that you’re prepared to get the most helpful advice!

TO ATTEND
Everyone is welcome to attend. I only ask that you arrive on time or early—late arrivals may distract from the masterclass. If you do arrive late, please wait until you can hear a change between singers before coming in to sit down or sit in the back.

NO RECORDINGS! Please do not record the masterclass unless you have permission from the person you are recording (i.e. a particular singer). Photos are permitted, but please do not share them online unless you have the permission of the person you photographed.

LOCATION: First Christian Church, 1625 N Broadway in Shawnee. Please use the East/Rear entrance—all the others will probably be locked. The exact location is TBD and depends on the number of singers who sign up. I will post that as soon as I have figured that part out!

PLEASE NOTE! While I welcome new students (provided I have room in my schedule), you are under no obligation to register for lessons. This masterclass is freely given with no expectation of further study.

That said, you are more than welcome to use this as an opportunity to test the waters with me if you’ve been thinking about signing up for lessons!

Please fill out the form below to sign up for the masterclass.
